The Soul of Digital Art

" What would the Futurists have done with an information superhighway? "

Mark Amerika

“ In short, the avant-garde becomes software. This statement should be understood in two ways. On the one hand, software codifies and naturalizes the techniques of the old avant-garde. On the other hand, software’s new techniques of working with media represent the new avant-garde of the meta-media society “

Lev Manovich

At times, even today, one looks with a certain negative prejudice at the new media art due to the supposed preponderance of mechanical means significantly and superficially undervaluing the “human factor.“

This regards a very vast area of new art composed of many sides and denominations such as net art, web art, cyber art, digital art, computer art, software art, tech art, telematic art, multi-medial art etc.

The hybrid and simultaneous character of digital culture means that it the more contradictions it displays, the more interesting it becomes.

The mission of this magazine is to be an outlet with a resolutely international orientation for the reflection, knowledge, research and diffusion of these new artistic forms, without wanting to pigeon-hole digital art and it’s characteristic fluidity.

On the other hand, this difficulty of trying to grasp the essence of digital art also constitutes its great fascination.

Simultaneously looking to “capture” the energy of digital art, investigating how technology is influencing and will influence our way of thinking, of perceiving, of feeling; it is often the artists themselves who can offer us the best reflections on the digital age.

Without forgetting also the relationship with more traditional art, the futurist legacy and the historical development, music, architecture, cinema and digital theatre.
