fmx/06

For everyone who wants to learn more about the current trends in Creation, Production and Distribution, fmx/06 is one of the most important dates of the year. The 11th International Conference on Animation, Effects, Realtime and Content from 03 ­ 06 May, 2006 in Stuttgart presents a varied programme featuring the latest trends and developments in the industry and is also a unique opportunity for networking. With renowned speakers and partners from all over the world, the conference is generating increasing interest throughout Europe.

The topics of fmx/06 span from the latest Animation Movies and Effects features, the convergence of Games and Movies, new fields of work for Animators to the latest use of Realtime Graphics and current trends from the Far East. New this year is the co-operation with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film: Not only will there be overlapping programmes, International Festival of Animated Film award ceremony will also be the opening of fmx/06 on the evening of 02 May, 2006.

Almost a small sensation: beginning this year, there will be a regular “Virtual Humans Forum”. Christophe Hery, Lead Research & Development Engineer, ILM, Mark Sagar, Special Projects supervisor for King Kong, Weta Digital, George Borshukov, former Technology supervisor for the Matrix series, who recently moved to Electronic Arts and others will share their insights with us. In the Effects section, we are thrilled to have a Special Event with Matt Aitken and other speakers from Weta Digital. Rhythm & Hues will be represented by Bill Westenhofer, who was Rhythm & Hues Vfx Supervisor on The Chronicles of Narnia. Jeff Kleiser from Kleiser-Walczak will join us. In the Animation section, Dreamworks will once again be taking part, more details will be announced soon. In our expanded Games section, we will welcome as Keynote Speaker the famous Game creator and Screenwriter Jordan Mechner who will be sharing on his experience in writing for games and writing for films with the example of Prince of Persia. Scot Brew, Senior Art Technical Director at LucasArts, will address Production Pipelines and technologies issues for Next Gen Games. Notorious Game Designer and Writer Lee Sheldon, author of the reference book Character Development and Storytelling for Games, will be speaking about Emotion in Games.

The topic “Digital Cinema” in the context of the new fmx/technologies, will be presented by renowned companies such as Grass Valley, Quantel and Sony.

For better orientation of the extensive programme, fmx has been arranged into sections such as:

- fmx/conference: with fmx/essentials and fmx/talks about Animation, Effects, Games and Production issues.

- fmx/forum: fmx/expo, fmx/workshops and fmx/suites with all relevant hard and software vendors, fmx/technologies - focusing on "Digital Cinema" and "Rendering”.

- fmx/talents: the successful Recruiting Event bringing students, graduates and freelancers together with specialists from German and international animation, postproduction and game companies, European Talents and Eyes & Ears Junior Showcase.

- fmx/events: Partner Events such as the animago AWARD:2006 by the trade magazine DIGITAL PRODUCTION, the Visualisation workshop by MFG, Baden-Wuerttemberg, flashconference® and "Developing Interactive Narrative Content" seminar from sagasnet.

- Realtime Film Festival includes:

Realtime Screenings: screening of selected submissions for the competition. Realtime Sessions and Realtime Awards in the following 5 categories: Cut Scenes, Flash, Machinima, Demos and VJ Visuals. Realtime Party with international VJs.

Organized by the Institute of Animation, Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, fmx/06 is a non-profit event, funded by the Staatsministerium Baden-Wuerttemberg, MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Wuerttemberg and FFA Filmfoerderungsanstalt, and supported by many partners from the industry. For fmx/06, the Institute of Animation is cooperating, for the first time, with the French company NX Publishing who were, up to the last year, responsible for the programme and organization of Imagina. fmx is also supported by DIGITAL PRODUCTION, Eyes & Ears of Europe, sagasnet, flashconference® and other important media partners.
